English philosopher, political economist and civil servant. Mill's conception of liberty justified the freedom of the individual in opposition to unlimited state control. Mill is also famous for being one of the earliest and strongest supporters of ever greater rights for women. His book The Subjection of Women is one of the earliest written on this subject by a male author.

As well as being Chief Executive of the British Humanist Association, Andrew is President of the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU). His writing on humanist and secularist issues has appeared in The Guardian, The Independent, The Times and New Statesman as well as in various journals. He has represented the BHA and Humanism extensively on television news on BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky. 

 

Andrew Copson - Blasphemy by the Back Door

Just because blasphemy laws have been abolished doesn’t mean there are not strong regulatory and legal threats to free speech and free expression in the UK. Andrew will look at how overly stringent laws against offence have introduced blasphemy by the back door.
